Dash display switching off for a few seconds

My wife, who does most of the driving in our Zed, has reported that the dash display (odometer, clock etc) has been switching off for a few seconds while driving over the past few weeks. Searching this forum I found a post that suggested a link with the auto headlights switching on. Possible voltage drop on that circuit? Could this be the cause? If so, should I be looking for other symptoms? Is there a fix?

Sure it's switching off and not dimming? I had the same until i realised USB charging cable going to my phone was covering the light sensor on the LCM.

This is a genuine thing. I've noticed mine do it a couple of times. Only ever in daylight, which is odd.

It goes off for a few seconds, as you've said, then it comes back on as if nothing was wrong.

It happens. Never seen it on the zed, but my E46’s did it. It’s to do with the little little light sensor on the LCM. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Have you done a proper inspection on your wife recently?

I attempted this on mine once, the diagnostic software isn’t available to men

 I can confirm that the Sport button works OK....

Well, back to the topic. So, the consensus is that there is a phenomenon which has the mysterious effect of switching off the display for a few seconds but the cause is not fully understood. It all seems to correct itself as if nothing has happened and I shouldn't really worry about it. A bit like my wife really...... :poke:

 yes, exactly that.

I've had my Z4 6 years and haven't had any strange electrical issue's, so i just put it down to quirky behaviour
