Dash cam hard wire

I have just installed my Nextbase dash cam and endevoured to follow Number 5's wiring explanation. On my old car i used the cig lighter (all wires hidden) but this time I wanted to hard wire it to a switched live. My Z is a 2015 (sept) 20i M-sport, and in fairness to Number 5 he did say that his instructions didn't necessarily apply to E89s. Too true! Up in the linterior light void the loom going to the rain sensor contains about eight very thin wires, none of which are violet/white and as far as I could determine, none are switched live. There is very little space and no slack in the loom, there are also two small printed circuit boards there, so working is extremely difficult. I gave up! Put it all back and used my old cig lighter lead running it along the top of the window, down the side pillar across and down the rubber door seal, along the inner passenger bottom trim up to the rear bulkhead carpet, tuck it under and up to the switched live central arm-rest cig lighter. No wires visible anywhere. Unfortunately I had already purchased a 12v/5v converter which I no longer need. Unused, and now for sale @ £3 inc. p&p! Interested?

If you connect it to a switched live you will disable the parking function of the camera.
For a fully functional camera you need to be on a permanent live.
The nextbase installation kit has (apparently) a gadget included that stops it draining your car battery to a critical level.
Which model NB Cam did you get?
