Damper refresh

Hi all,

New owner here, and I'm looking to refresh all four dampers on my 2006 Z4 3.0si coupe and just looking for people's advice who have bought the parts themselves.

In this thread @enuff_zed very helpfully posted part numbers for each of the four dampers. However when I enter my car into Autodoc it says the part number for the Sachs rear dampers does not match my car (312468). It seems to be that these match the convertible but not the coupe. Can anyone confirm this? Interestingly, both the part numbers for the fronts do match. (317551, 317552).

The only other parts for the rears that do seem to fit are the Bilstein B4s, which I'm not opposed to but I have heard from different people that the corrosion protection on the Bilsteins isn't great and the Sachs dampers seem to last longer.

Only other option is to buy genuine but I've shopped around and they seem very expensive indeed, like £300+ per damper!

Genuine will be Sachs.

Rear shocks.

with Msport suspension 33 50 6777029

E85si coupe 33 52 6785996
with Msport suspension 33 52 6785997

No idea what the difference is between the various ones (other than damping rates etc)!

Thanks very much @Rockhopper !

Seems Bilstein are the only ones that are available that correspond with the M Sport suspension part number 33506777029. Which isn't the end of the world as I can just keep an eye on them and replace if they are starting to corrode.

Fitted B4s on mine, it had tired m sports. Shocks are physically longer , but my logic was , lots of people fit lowered springs on standard shocks and I do minimal mileage. Drives superb on B4's with M sport shocks & non run flats

Thanks all, I think B4s are the way forward for now and I'll just keep an eye on them and make sure they aren't suffering too badly from corrosion.
