Damaged thread on suspension mount - avoid?

Okay then...I did a thing...

There is now a black 2.2 E85 sat on the driveway.
Lots of things needed to be done. Will post in the morning. Can't wait to get to work on it!

Welcome to the 2.2 club. I love mine, great sound especially up winding hills in 2nd gear. Makes my heart bleed.

Congrats. Easy engine to work on and seems to be a closer ratio box so ideal for back roads and country lanes. Currently have one the same waiting for me to fit the EPS motor.
When you’ve made your list you know where to come for help

So the Zed got a thorough clean inside and out yesterday as it had been SORN in a barn for a good few months.

She has 97k on her which for an 04 plate I am really happy about. She is very leaky. I've ordered an oil filter housing gasket and a rocker cover gasket. Valve cover looks fine for now. I intend to change the serpentine and drive belts while doing the oil filter housing gasket as I will be pulling the belts out the way to do the gasket from what I can see.

The gear knob is uber impressive....it can do a 360 degree spin haha so that needs attending to or replacing.

My obd2 scanner can't do srs/airbag faults, but from the initial test drive, the clock spring being the steering wheel clicks when turned between 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock so I am suspecting that is the culprit behind my warning light. Will need to source a replacement.

Some kind person has decided to de-badge both indicator lights...am I right in saying this means new indicator units required? I think they come as a job lot don't they?

Headlights are in a terrible state. I am going to refurnmb them today and see if it makes a difference. If not, looks like I may need to replace.

There is an intermittent bulb light comes up on the dash. I cannot suss exactly what it is. That said, the wife had a short run in it yesterday evening and then parked up outside and started playing with buttons. She noticed that the indicators work but the hazard warning lights don't. Is this a "thing"?

Could do with sourcing a new steering wheel for her at some point. Also, the interior door handles could do with either respraying or replacing.

Car is staying on the drive till the gaskets are done as she is seriously low on oil and still dripping.

1300 quid though...and only one bit of lacquer peel and a fully functioning roof. Surely none of the above is going to be too much to sort?

All the stuff you've listed is easy to sort and I think you'll find a fair few items already in the For Sale section.
You can get new badges to fit to the indicators or simply get a good pair of second-hand units.
What's up with the steering wheel? If you or the ife are fairly handle with needle and thread then search on here for 'Mewant' covers.
I've done three now and they are fairly easy to fit and do look good. Or you can go the whole hog and send it away to Royals for the full treatment.
I 'think' [ref]umfaan[/ref] had a good set of headlights? Just need to confirm if you need halogen or xenon.

Sounds like you have a decent car that you can put a bit of your own work into and make even better.

Still seriously short on photos though. :poke: :D

I had just refurbished one headlight and was about to apply headlight sealer then the rain arrived here in Qest Sussex. Typical!

Fixed the hazard light/door lock issue. Someone has had the module out before and damaged the retaining clips in the back which prevented the buttons from activating the lights/locking. Superglue has sorted that out.

I've managed to refurb one headlight, but it could definitely do with a second (and maybe even third) passwith all grades of sandpaper again. Mine are halogen lights, though someone has fitted LED's in the car.

The wife got excited and has gone and ordered the Mewant steering cover haha

Congratulations on your Z4 purchase. It sounds like you are giving it some overdue TLC so good luck with your fettling.

So! Never assume! Looked at your user name and did just that.
Whereabouts in West Sussex are you?
I may be in Narfook now, but was brought up in Littlehampton.

Enuff Zed....you're kidding me?? I live in "LA". Moved down here about 22 years ago.

Anyways...apologies for the delay. I know some of you wanted pics. So here goes. Not sure on etiquette re: reg plates so haven't done a full frontal pic. I've put one in of the lacquer peel too for reference.

Trust me when I say the lights were horrible, they were horrible. I've given them two passes with the resto kit to get them to an okay standard.

Moved away in 1982 when I joined the RAF. Lived on Horsham Road right opposite Peregrine Road. Old man still lives there but moved to Southway.

I'm just north of the Wick Roundabout.

Priorities for the Z4 now are:

- To fit the soon to arrive gaskets;
- Source a clock spring from t'internet and work out how to fit it. Then see if I can get a garage to clear the SRS airbag light and then see if that clears it.
- Work out why the exclamation mark in the triangle surrounded by a circled arrow is on my dashboard;
- Try and figure out what is causing the intermittent bulb light.

Oh by the way, the original purpose this post...the suspension mount..it turns out that when the suspension bits were done for the last MOT, someone got overzealous with a bolt on a lower arm, not a suspension mount. They have damaged the thread. At some point I will look at the suspension as a whole so I will rip that out. That's not as bad as I thought.

The wife LOVES her. Am so relieved.

That light is traction control. Check under the drivers seat carpet for damp. Could be the yaw sensor got wet.
Speak to [ref]bigwinn[/ref] for the clock spring and any other parts you need as I’m away all week
