Damage :-(

Afternoon all,

At some point this week, some ***** *** ***** ***** has driven into my car, then driven off. Very angry!

As no bodyshops are open today, can anyone give a guestimate on how much this will cost to repair, see picture below?

The wing is split slightly at the wheel arch/lip where it has bent inward and the bumper is scuffed, but not split or cracked.

Cheers,
Chris.

That sucks

Difficult to tell if it will repair but looks like the wing is both dented and twisted. Guess you agree given the other thread to buy a wing

Bumper cover should come up OK, but will need a new bracket where it fixes to the wing.

Gutted for you mate.

Ebay £70 with best offer? will need painting.

Similar damage to mine in March that cost £1800 at Dacid Holmes BMW bodyshop (still not recovered from the lorry driver), but that required a new seals on the door after blending, which your's may not, and mine probably included an ///M 'tax' :x

£1800 for that repair....... Jeeez, I would have said £700-800 tops :headbang:

That does seem a bit steep mmm-five!

Mine came in at just shy of £1500 for a whole new door, sideskirt chip sorted, dents pulled out of the front wing and obviously spraying it.

That wing looks like a skilled panel beater can straighten it out in an hour, then you are looking at labour to fill and paint plus odd bits like the bumper bracket. A reasonable body shop should have that done to a good standard for £4-500 but you may suffer from BMW tax.

If you don't fancy a repaired wing, there is one on Ebay for £95 (they are bolt on aren't they) and then it's just paint and sundries which should certainly be no more than £300 max.

This is assuming no damage underneath.

These things are annoying but that's life - nobody is killed, nobody is hurt - unless you find tha bastard who did it!!

I'd be suporised if that wing could be economically repaired as it's not just dented, but folded inwards at about the 11.00 position, right on the crease area. The opening post also references the metal is torn.

Truely sucks that people walk away from things like this

Had similar damage to my front wing repaired for about £600.

Sorry, I'd missed the fact that the metal is torn. I was just looking at the phote and with the wing off, it shouldn't be difficult to straghten if there is no damage underneath. Add the fact yoy need a line of weld on the split then further repairs and the labour to do that wouldn't be economical if a used wing can be had for under £100.

I suggest you do shop around as some garages will put BMW tax on I'm afraid.

On the face of it is sholdn't be too difficult to do.

Me too!, but it was going through the other party's insurance, so I got 3 quotes/estimates (Chartwells near Derby, Gaskells near Blackburn & BMW), and they all came in at almost the same, so I went to BMW as they had the earliest availability by about 2 weeks.

One did offer to save me £200 by trying to reuse the door seal.

If it had been a cash deal (and had the other party simply accepted to pay when it happened), then I'd have done my best to get it done more economically. But at least I know that when I sell it, I can honestly say it's had all new genuine parts, rather than welding, filling, or pattern parts, etc.

Just got the estimate out, and it was actually just over £1600.

Grrrr seeing stuff likes this makes me so mad.

Hope you manage to get it fixed without too much of a dent in your pocket.

I have seen a few rear wings on eBay lately... if you could get one in the right colour would save you painting it.. so just a rear bump respray and you may get away with only a few hundred pounds of damage there.

Lucky there was no damage to your rear wheel/ tire.

Hi All,

Thanks for all your replies.

I am taking the car down to a bodyshop in West London this weekend, who did an outstanding job on a car I previously owned that had similar damage.

Due to a tear in the wing on the wheel arch lip I think it will be more sensible to replace the wing rather than just weld and re-spray it. Hopefully the bumper can just be rubbed down and sprayed, so hopefully the complete repair won't be too expensive!

I will post pictures and a price one it's all sorted!

Chris.
