DA pads to start with

So I’ve purchased a budget DA and need to get some pads to start , but don’t want to purchase 1 of each.

I am looking at possibly 2 5.5 inch and 2 3-4 inch

Also any recommendations on swirl removers etc

I’ve always used collinite or autoglym HD until now so open to any opinions.
Many thanks

Check some forensic detailing videos out on youtube. Jon can explain a lot better than I can.
I’d recommend some scholl pads, purple and orange to start. You will need some polish scholl s20 will do the trick to start out with. This is a 1 step polish ideal to keep costs down.
The products you already have are for protection so need to be applied after polishing. I’d also recommend some sort of panel wipe, I use Koch fw.
In all honesty check the videos out they are great

The most important thing is the condition of your existing paint,

If there’s serious defects that need correcting, you’ll need both a cutting compound & pads... if in good shape, suggest you only need to use buffing & polishing pads with your polish & sealant (along with clay bar prep(

I’d start with a green or grey CG hex logic pad with G Teqniq P1 polish, then your wax of choice with a red pad. The P1’s good as it doesn’t dust up like a lot of polishes and compounds do.

Thanks Guys I’ll be looking into the best place to get these items tomorrow.

Don’t waste your time with the softer pads on the Z4 for cutting, it has a very tough clear coat and the soft pads won’t do much. I’d go straight in with a hex logic yellow and something like Sonax EX 04-06, then finish with a blue hex logic.

Exactly that. I'd even consider using the microfibre pads as they'll give you more cutting power.

+1 for microfibre pads here also. I've got a full set of CG Hex Logic Foam pads but rarely use them now

I use the Megs MF ones and then have a finishing foam on a lighter finishing polish.

The MF pads work great in my experience

Ordered some hex logic ones with sonax compound from cleanyourcar. Looks like it will be delivered on Monday.

EX04-06 is a great compound to work with. You’ll probably find you can do it all in one stage with the yellow pad, such is the performance of the reducing abrasives in the polish. Blue pad and same compound will give the extra 1% mirror glass finish. Protect it with a good quality wax.

I always go to the same combo on BMW paint..

Megs ultimate compound and a microfibre cutting pad... Cuts quickly and cleanly with no mess.
