Current spark plug recommendations/advice - E85 3.0i

Hi, I fitted a set of NGK Iridium (BKR6EIX) plugs 27k miles/5 years ago so understand I should probably change them in upcoming Inspection 2.

I paid £7.44 each last time but see they are now £13.99 each from Opie Oil, and they don't come up when I search plugs for my vehicle.

However there are BOSCH and DENSO Iridium options for £9.99 and £11.95.

I've looked through previous threads for spark plug recommendations but they are usually quite a few years old. What would people recommend now and is it worth paying extra for Iridium over, say NGK BKR6EQUP Platinum plugs (£11.95).

I do about 4x 40mile trips per week but drive quite hard and do occasional longer driving trips or very occasional trackdays.

Thank you for any advice, Jeremy

Change interval is 100k miles for the facelift N52. I've just done mine which were original at this and they looked barely worn. At the price I paid for the replacement set I'm not changing them again!

Take a look here for the range of plugs for your model using the search facility, good range and prices, just decide on what type you want to suit your budget and the type of use you put the car to, standard plugs should last 30k miles before they need inspection and re-gapping, the higher the price is due to the materials used in the manufacture the higher priced Iradium will last much longer than standard plugs, your paying for the material they are made from and their lifespan. Example here is for my 2003 2.5 Z4. I use standard plugs as its a fair weather car that dodn't do a lot of mileage, they work fine for me. If it was a daily driver then I would go for the higher priced options.

Thanks for the advice colb and link, I'll take a look. Is the wear on the plugs primarily down to mileage or is age a significant factor?

I don't really want to spent £60-£80 unnecessarily so wondered whether it will it be quite obvious whether they need replacing from inspecting? Is it worth asking the garage to check to see if they need replacing before ordering do you think?

Thanks for any advice
