, curious to know if you bought the z4 initially for the shape, the looks, the drive or the engine, or a combination of these? just that i had to reverse a van over a quarter of a mile the other day because a "person" in a brand new Turbo 911 couldnt or woudnt reverse 40 yards , which got me wondering whether this person realised what was under the bonnet, (no boot comments please) how many cylinders it had or what sort of performance it was capable of. being that this person was at a guess fairly late sixties and probably or possibly never boots it, i thought a bit of a waste really, surely a performce car of that calibre is'nt meant for tootling along at 40 mph.I would absolutely love to see an old granny or grandad, but especially a granny in a huge engined sports car just ragging it !!! :driving: :rofl: :thumbsup:
 
When I bought mine it was purely on looks - I'd never even driven it by the time I paid for it. That said, I liked the BMW cache and of course knew it was RWD and the fun that usually means......
 
looks - it is the best looking roadster on the road and i still don't see anything that mortals can buy that beats it

i cant help thinking that a 325 touring would be just as fast and would carry 4 with a dog - but the z4 is just stunning

The drive, the engine, the fact it is a roadster. Certainly didn't buy it because it's a BMW. At least I don't think I did :?
 
I bought mine purely for the engine & performance I didn't actually like the look of it that much strangely, I just didn't like it from the front at all but liked the side & rear profile, but then in time the looks really grew on me but friends/family loved the way it looked its funny how we all see things differently :)
 
Liked the fact it was an old school roadster - engine in the front RWD. I Saw the 3.0 when it had its World Press Launch on the Algarve - I was on holiday down there and liked the look of them.

When it came to filling the space in the garage I considers - MX-5s , Caterhams and Ellises - but considering any car club /forum meet would start 2-3 hours from where I Live I don't fancy the cruise home in the Caterham. strangely never considered the Boxter.

To be honest before I bought the First the fact it had a BMW badge on it was a negative for me as I'd always been more of a VAG fan but to be honest since having it I'm warming to the rest of the Marque.
 
Reasons:
1. It's relatively rare (and good looking)
2. It's quick, and has loads of torque
3. Running costs (servicing etc) were lower than an M3

I also considered -
S2000 Honda - too sluggish unless you're over 6,000rpm
Nissan 350z - interior quality not great, and 23mpg
M3 (E46) - didnt find any locally that were in my budget that ticked all the right boxes
 
Bit of everything.
Had a 3 series so used to BMW. Always fancied the look of one, as well as pining for a 3 series cabrio whenever the sun shone.

Then I test drove mine, the seller pushed the Sport button and accelerated my heart into 'I must have this car now' mode. And so here we are ;)
 
I wanted a weekend car, looked at TT, MX5,. Could not find a TT that felt right, all the ones in my budget that I looked at and drove were well used. Would have bought an MX5 liked the drive, but the wife wanted "something different". Then saw a couple of Z3's and then found I could buy a Z4 for the budget I had set as the prices seem to have dropped last year. Now I am hooked and considering an E89. :D
 
I liked them from the start and borrowed a demo car for a weekend after they'd been out about a year. It was a 3-litre SMG and I always wanted the 3-litre car at that time. That sold me on one, although it also convinced me I never wanted SMG, and I bought my first in 2005. When I came to change cars, it was a similar thing - I'd been invited for a test-drive in the new Z4MC when it was launched and loved it, but it was a bit pricey new for me then. So I waited a couple of years and bought one when values had come down enough.

Unless BMW do something drastic with the model line-up it will be my last Zed though. I've no interest in the current E89 at all.
 
For me it was a combination or the rarity of the Coupe, looks, performance and the fact that any more than two seats is a waste of space!
 
Nothing looks as nice as a zed in its price range.
Originally I was going to get an audi TT MK1 then I seen how cheap Z4 Roadsters were and I took the plunge!
