cup holder not holding

The world as I know it has come to an end.. it's the problem to end all problems...

I've dribbled hot coffee all over my crotch. :|

I realise there's not much you guys can do to fix that problem, however I was hoping for some advice on a related issue.
My drivers side cup holder has lost it's holding ability.

Basically, the spring-loaded arm isn't staying in place. When you open the cup holder, it's at it's normal "far to close together to be useful" position.
However, as soon as you put any pressure on the movable arm, it extends to its fully open position, making it impossible to hold my coffee cup, bottle or can of coke, or even paper soda cup from McDonalds.

I know these are rocking horse s**t to get second hand, and dealers like to rip you off for them.. so I'm hoping there's a nice and easy DIY fix that someone's discovered.

Any help?

You can go and buy the cup holder, it should not be very expencive (I have paid in the past about 50 euros). Installation is very easy and straightforward

they're only £33 I know, but if it's something stupid like a spring come off, I'd rather know and dissassemble and fix it, than pay £33 8)

Consider me a tightfisted git
