CTEK Trickle Charger Lead From Cabin To Boot/Trunk

I have a CTEK charger and want to use it during the winter to keep the battery charged during the winter, I need to run the lead from the cabin to the boot/trunk, I think running it through the cubby behind and in between the seats is the best way - is this possible preferably without any drilling or cutting?

why not just put it though the boot opening. There is plenty of room and what most of us do.

Why not plug into the Lighter socket as it's live all the time. I've been doing it that way for years without a problem.

I just shut the boot on the ctek lead, it's thin enough and doesn't get marked if you line it up with the plastic indents on the boot trim (roadster).

+1 done the same for the past 7 years no problems.

Why not use the under bonnet posts?

Quick connector can be more easily added to the battery direct.

The E89 owners handbook says use the under bonnet posts!
I'm sure they have their reasons.

I've always understood that the connection post is recommended in owners manuals because high amp fast chargers and jump starting can overload the system and there is charge protection on the post. For comparison the ctek is strictly speaking a smart controlled 'conditioner' which delivers a max of 5 amps (hence the skinny leads). An average boost or jump starter will push over 400 amps which would knock down a horse! so requires the big fat leads and quite sensibly needs protection.

The CTEK is safe to connect directly to the battery via the supplied plug, in fact CTEK make the chargers for BMW and are identical, including the battery plugs and lead even for the E89

A previous owner of my car installed wiring from the under bonnet post and ground point to a connector protruding through the lower grille. This connector mates to my trickle charger and makes for simple set-up for winter storage. For the last two springtimes, I just unplugged the connector, turned the key, and the car started instantly as if it had been running moments before.

Installed the wiring today directly to the battery terminals (which is how I did it in my last car) will line the lead up with the plastic indents on the rear trim panel and close the lid - Sorted!
