CSL REPs

hey guys, im driving an 03 roadster with stock 104s and they need to go when summer hits...
someone here mentioned that the VM CSL Reps from modbargains are poor quality and generally arent recommended...however they are made in hyperblack and thats im looking for..i dont have the money to shell out for better wheels so im in a sticky position.. :x so if any one knows anything about the VMs from modbargains, fill me in.

now regarding fittament, i am looking at 18x8.5 in the front and 18x9.5 in the rear with a 45mm offset. i think the stock offset is 47mm according to realoem...so i should be ok with the 45mm in the rear, but they dont make a mention of the front offset? is it the same or something else? will a 9.5 fit back there without rubbing? i saw someone mount 10s and it looked like a tight tight fit, will i have wiggle room? does anyone know how much the 104 weighs? ive heard these csl reps weigh in at about 30lbs, which is a gain over stock....

still learning the ins and outs so bear with me

lastly , opinions on rubber? there seem to be a few popular ones and id like to know if theres actually a practical difference between a 235 and 245 rear, if any...

thanks all

The main thing with VM is the real weight vs the claimed weight.

Yep that's exactly it. It's amazing that you can still find modbargains and Velocity Motoring themselves claiming that the 19" CSL reps weigh 25lbs on their own websites, despite that EVERY SINGLE PERSON who's ever weighed the CSL reps got 29lbs~31lbs, including me. Had I known that the wheels were that heavy I would've never bought them in the first place. Some may think that a mere difference of 5lbs per wheel isn't a big deal. But when it's unsprung weight and rotational mass, 5lbs makes a big difference. And I'm not even talking about straight-line acceleration even though they do slow down the car slightly. I'm talking about handling performance and steering feel. My Z4M lost the nimbleness and the steering felt numb. The car did feel very slightly slower off the line. I can only imagine that this would be more noticible on a 3.0i or even 2.5i.

The VM CSL reps aren't terrible wheels. They're just heavy, and as long as you understand their shortcomings and are okay with the performance sacrifices, especially since you don't have many choices since you can't fit OEM ZCP's/CSL's on your 3.0i and OEM's don't come in the hyperblack finish, $1k isn't a bad price of those wheels. You won't really be able to find much better wheels with a $1k budget than those. For anyone else who has the Z4M, just get the OEM ZCP's for $1700 shipped from Tischer BMW instead of bothering with these replica's. The OEM ones are WORTH the extra $700.

And anyone that plans to order from modbargains, read these threads and think twice before you do it. I replied in one of the threads about my less than satisfactory experience. One of their reps, Sha, PM'd me and apologized to me asking me if there's anything they could do for me to make it up. Only hours later, before I even had a chance to reply Sha, their OWNER MIKE, who despite being a business undergraduate obviously doesn't know much about customer service, PM'd me too with insults and denied any responsibilities on modbargain's part. I'll buy a Kia before I order anything from modbargains.

BTW, Modbargains isn't the only one who sells VM CSL replica's.

thanks GP20, i definitely do not want to load an additional 20lbs on the wheels, 2.5 as it is. i have heard that the wheelmax AZA reps come in at about 25lbs on e46fanatics - they are also cheaper. however wheelmax no longer stocks these and word on the street is that they will not be making them again. does anyone know where i could get them? i would prefer NOT to deal with modbargains so at the moment...i am stuck. alternatives anyone?

The wheelmax CSL reps are heavier than the VM CSL reps. They weighed about 31lbs front and 33lbs rear. Wheelmax actually has even worse customer service and warranty than modbargains. So I wouldn't bother with them either.

Many people have gotten the M6 replica wheels here and they look pretty good IMO.

gp20, theres some pictures from e46fanatics that shows these at 24lbs for the 19 x 8.5

i am still looking for alternatives but i will definitely be taking a look at these.

do you have any tire size recommendations if im going for 18 x 8.5 all around? i want to stagger but they are not stocking 18x9.5...unfortunately. im not looking forward to dealing with wheelmax but im willing to run the risk for the killer price.. :D
