Had a quick chat with a guy driving a M3 CSL the other day, he pulled the bonnet and showed me the intake/airbox :o Stunning, not seen one before

Man that is taking in some air :o i just switched my standard airbox on TT but now that looks like farting in a teacup by comparison

Ha, yeah I had a CSL for a few years, definitely, completely changes the driving experience of an M3. The noise is addictive, it's hilarious when people hear it coming down the road, they stop and stare...induction noise is soooo much better than exhaust noise.

Makes me chuckle every time i look at that intake mouth :D you could lose a decent sized dog up there :P must sound awesome

Yours for a reduced price of just $3k

As mental as the cls box is (considering it was from factory), an s54 with trumpets is a whole different ball game!

That's not the same one though by the looks of it...same finish but a different sized intake opening? The one on the CSL has a massive circular opening? Unless it's just the angles the pics have been taken from

Its pretty large, maybe 20cm in diameter. The flap motor is the thing that goes wrong with them, gets stuck open or shut....I've still got 2 spare flaps in the cupboard if anyone needs them! :D

It's the same size just that the snorkel is a different shape on the z4 reflecting how air gets to the engine. On the m3 version what you can't see is the snorkel that goes down to bumper level where the air intake is on those cars. They also intake air higher up through the plastic bit you can see above the grill hence the open part of the box. On our cars all the air comes in through the grill area so the snorkel goes there.
It sounds indentical to the Csl box.
I got mine from CA tech, and I believe evolve do one also. You'll then need it alpha-n mapped as the maf is no longer used.
One of the best noises you'll hear from an engine, love it!

A sadly shitty phone clip gently following my friend in his m3 in front at donington last year. Going to invest in a gopro and decent mic this year I think.

To be fair though, from the other clips I've heard the Gruppe-M/eventuri option comes fairly close for a lot less cost and hassle. The CSL option definitely does release a few extra ponies though.

On trumpets it sounds quite similar to a Speed Six, for relatively obvious reasons I assume.

May be a silly question but is the motor in our cars canted over, or is it just the way the head looks? I know a "slant" six isn't unusual
