Cruise control Fit and random glove box light

Hi everyone,

I collected my wonderful new (to me) 2004 3.0i Z4 and I'm well chuffed!
As soon as Ive got it, I want to play and improve a few bits to get it just right.

I saw the post regarding Cruise Control fitting and hopefully (fingers crossed as mine was registered in Oct 04) it is pre mod and I can fit without the additional loom. But, what I was inquiring is that if I disconnect the battery, will it loose any memory items and a radio code? I think the keys can be programmed from the off by BMW and wasn't sure if it will be wiped?

And also is it normal for my glove box light to be permanently on?!?!?! I've fiddled with the catch and it remains on and I cant find a switch!

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Oh and does anyone know where I can find a nice cheap Cruise control stalk? Any less that BMWs 50 quid would be marvelous!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the purchase :D

Only thing you will lose when disconnecting your battery is trip computer info and clock settings. Everything else should be fine :D

Never noticed the glovebox light - hardly ever open mine. I would imagine it isn't supposed to be on full time though...

don't see a light here though :?

Ah thats great news I'll have to source the part and go for it :D

Ah my bad, I meant to say its the centre stowage compartment between the seats :-s

ah in that case then, no I dont think it is always on. There should be something at the bottom of the pull down flap which hits a switch...

maybe that has snapped off ?

at the bottom of the flap (5) here

yeah, that switch I have taken out loads of time. Very fragile, but does need replacing if yours is broken as it might drain your battery.

Little bugger is here:

i screwed a screw into the bottom of the door to replace the broken switch- the little plastic catch is forever breaking!

Not quite sure why you need a light in there to be honest anyway ...

Ah thanks very much guys!

I pulled out the flap and correct, the plastic arm had broken, I turned it on and off to confirm the switch worked. All good. I was going to fashion a makeshift arm but in that same minute the bulb blew! Must have not liked being turned off after how many months of being on with the previous owner! Job sorted, no real need for a light so I'm happy. Thanks for all your help and advise.

Thanks AlanJ I'll get some pics posted

Cheers

Well the bulb hadn't blown! So I got everything out again and made a makeshift arm from a pen lid arm! Bit of epoxy and works likeva charm :-) it will probably fall off soon so self tappers at the ready! :-p

Mine was also broken - as was the arm on the micro--switch. The light was always on whilst driving but went off when the computer went to sleep. The replacement of the switch was covered under the AUC warranty, but not the lid. The dealer fitted a new lid for free (big deal the lid was off anyway ) when he replaced the switch.

Its a self tapper or araldite for me if it breaks again.

If I'd had pictures like this before, I wouldn't have wasted my £50

Dont worry it will not drain your battery as it switches off automatically after some time once you have taken the key out of the ignition.

I discovered that this weekend as i spent some time fiddling with the flap trying to mock up a replacement for the broken bit
