Crash cam instal in E89 Z4

For some time i have considered fitting a permanent camera to record whats going on ahead of me whilst driving my Z4. I have tried / ordered a system previously, but it was hideously mounted and just left me cold regarding its looks and how it operated.

I have now installed an E Prance camera and have to say that its compact nature, performance and overall appearance is pleasing. I''m very happy with it.

here are some pics and a video of the output.

I'm going for one of these. Any reason you didn't mount higher up?

Yep. higher up on passenger side blocked out the right hand side of the video as the trim for the mirror support obscures the right hand side of the car.

then further to the passenger side of the car and it clashes with the sun visor. as it not the best constructed of things, a sun visor twitting it on a regular basis, i thought would not prolong its life.

I would have preferred it higher, but there is a lot of the right hand wing etc that is just not visible.

PS i changed the VHB tape which is grey to black. it shows up way too much in grey.

That's annoying, was hoping to mount higher up, but see what you mean. Assume this is the proper 801 camera and not the cheaper one.

It came from E prance on amazon and the box has a Melbourne Red E89 Z4 on the view screen :-) so i hope so.

I ordered mine from E Prance on Amazon just to make sure it was the real deal. Its been working for the past 2 months and I can't fault it :D

Did you get the GPS version?

NO, i screwed up when ordering in with the drop down boxes! don't ask me how i screwed it up but i did. i will probably order the different mount on Monday and put it in place of this mount.

The GPS is quite useful to have when played back through the GPS player which you can download for free :)

No but when I get the GPS unit, I will do so. I'll get it before Germany as I do want to know my vmax :D

This is mine on my E85, I could have mounted it higher but didn't want it distracting me so mounted it a bit lower so that it would be concealed by the rear view mirror, in fact I can't see so tend to forget it is there.

Mounting it where I did makes it less noticable from outside as well :D

I suppose i wanted a centralised viewpoint for the lens and i wanted to get the cable as inconspicuous as i could.

The fact that they supply grey tape for mounting is just silly.

Aren't these better if they record front and rear? For example if someone rear-ends you?

Yes, but the problem is that the systems I've seen are just plain fugly. Let alone the bum ache it would be installing it on a folding roof car. This will do, if when recording the car suddenly jolts forward, rest assured it will look and sound like you've been bashed up the are end.
