Crackling noise when at low RPM

Hello,

I have a 2006 e85 3.0si.

When I am at 1000-1100 RPM i hear a crackling noise(the noise is not constant and can only be heard when going from 900 to 1100 rpm, or somewhere around those values), a friend had a similar problem on his car (not a BMW) and it turned out to be the Flywheel. I've been reading around and this seems like a symptom of Vanos problems. Should I be worried? What tests can I perform to check if everything is fine?

The sound is more noticeable when going in reverse. I will be taking the car to a BMW dealership for a check-up in the upcoming week.

So, I've been reading around and since I have the N52, it can't be a vanos failure (I hope) due to the fact that this is present mostly in the M52 engines.

My shot in the dark guess would be a loose undertray panel, heat shield, exhaust, or some such thing.
