Hi, we had this happen a few years back but repaired it without removing, but was wondering if this was a common problem on these twin turbo engines? And have other owners on this forum repaired using an apoxy high temp oil resistant resin like we did?

I’ve not had any problems with mine, but would be interested to know what you used and how you fixed it.

All the plastics on BMW engines are prone to cracking..cam box covers, and other housings….along with their attendant seals..Russian roulette as to when and where…the N54 suffers the most due to the amount of heat that the unit kicks out..

As Chippie said maybe an explanation of what you did in detail may enlighten more of a response..

I'll have to check in with my local garage as they sorted it out after we had oil smoke coming out of the wheel arch ! I'll post when I have the answer

A body repair shop with a plastic welder can probably fix it.

My local garage managed to repair the crack without removing it and that was around 2 years ago and 20k miles....as of yet I haven't had a chance to find out the exact product he used.
