Couple warning lights thrown up today.. :(

So have just been on the longest jaunt with my Z yet, to Taunton and back for work!

Totaling about 85 miles for the round trip, I got to about 2 miles from home and I get a yellow Brake warning light and a yellow DSC warning light come on.

They have however gone off now I have turned the engine off, they do not reappear when I turn the engine back on, so yeah, colour me confused.

Now I have looked in the manual and this apparently dictates a "failure of the DSC system" which is a bit concerning as I have to go to Taunton again tomorrow.

Anyone any idea what I could be looking at as an issue? Don't really want to go pay BMW a hefty fee to plug it into their diagnostic tool if anyone has already had a similar/same issue

Thanks guys. :)

Don't worry it's common with BMW electricity these days, happened both on my 3.0, and 2.5, if it doesn't stay on, don't worry. And if DSC really doesn't work it's not like the car is undriveable. Majority of times I drive mine with a DSC off all the way. Majority of people make jokes about Miata owners, but they seem to be real drivers cos in MK1 and 2 Miatas they don't have any DSC or stupid traction control to rely on.

If the lights no longer come on, I wouldnt worry.

I had the same on my car and it turned out to be a rotation pulse sensor. £270 to fix from BMW main dealer

Had these come a while ago, BMW traced to what appears 2 sensors on the master cylinder at approx £90 each.
Before that however I removed all the wheel rotation sensors and cleaned them that didn't solve the problem.
Whilst doing the sensors I noticed that my EBC Green Stuff pads had started to fall apart, I changed them and the lights have yet to come back on and have driven approx 600 miles, I have therefore cancelled my visit to BMW to get the sensors changed and hope my Zed now doesn't make a fool of me.

Pull block sensor off master cylinder spray with wd40 and replace might take a few goes if not same on wheel sensors, hate them stealers dont trust um £90 they can co-co.

I've met my first electrical gremlins this week as well. Monday, my electric power steering light came on upon starting the car, and the steering wheel was very difficult to turn (no PS). I turned it off, looked this up in the owner's manual (which recommends taking the car to the dealer ASAP) and then looked up the problem on Z4-forum. Another guy said his issue disappeared upon restarting the car, so I did that and haven't seen the light since.

Yesterday my DSC light came on upon starting the car. I switched the ignition off, then on, and the light turned off. After such reliable starts and motoring the last 2 years, I certainly hope this isn't a precursor of things to come... :headbang: Though I have the BMW certified pre-owned warranty (6 years or 100,000 miles), I doubt it covers electrical issues.

Any ideas why the PS would briefly cease to function?
