Couple of queries from a new owner

I've already started a thread with some pictures in the general e85 forum as I didn't spot this newbies forum!

However I've just purchased a 2004 3.0l convertible and have a couple of questions I'd hoped I could get some help with.

First off, does anyone elses car make a really annoying cheap sounding beep noise when you lock and unlock it? It doesn't sound OEM at all and I really want to turn it off, anyone know how too?

Secondly, my car comes with the flip up screen with navigation but I was wondering if anyone knew whether it's possible to connect my phone via bluetooth, the manual is very vague. I have a feeling it's too old and the phone function is literally just for having an in built car phone am I right about this?

Thanks,

Andrew

Hey Andrew,

I'm new to the forum too, welcome!

I have a 2006 E85 and mine doesn't make any audible beep when I lock or unlock it.

The beeps for alarm arming / disarming can be programmed ... This link contains a lot of interesting coding info :)

I have an early 05 Z4 with the pro-nav and that does have bluetooth support. I'm not sure if all had this option but it's something you probably can add if it doesn't. If you flip down the rear center console, you should have a mouth / speak button ... Put your key in the ignition, switched off, press and hold this button for 3 seconds, keeping it pressed, turn ignition to setting 1, after another 3 seconds release the buttons and the unit should display bluetooth pairing if all is good .... The tricky bit is you will need the pairing code which is on paperwork or the bluetooth module buried somewhere behind the seat (I think!) ... It's unlikely to be 0000 or 1234 ...

The button on my centre console didn't work so I had to put mine into pairing mode using a diagnostic tool in the OBD port ...

Good luck!

Or someone with a decent diagnostic tool, the basic £30 OBD readers won't do it ... I'll check if my Foxwell NT520 Pro will do it - it allowed me to put the bluetooth into pairing mode and also read the bluetooth pairing code from the ULF module so I expect it can set alarm beeps ... The NT520Pro is available on ebay for about £140 ..

If you don't have bluetooth, you can buy the module and add it but bear in mind, it is only for phone calls - audio streaming is not supported. Your pro-nav will have an aux-in connection on the back so adding a 3.5mm aux port or bluetooth for audio streaming is pretty easy. I've only had my Z a week so haven't done that yet!

.. and welcome :)

Welcome to the forum. You can pair your phone to the Bluetooth. And make calls via the steering wheel buttons. Assuming you have all fitted.

In the center console cubby. Hold the pairing button for 3 secs, turn ignition, still holding the button, when it comes up with bluetooth on you phone, search for bt devices, click on bmw... then enter the PIN number in your hand book.

A few of us have software that can turn off and on a few things post where you are and you will find someone near you. IE im in the west mids Burton area.
Many people will tell you Bluetooth can't be used for music, but I can. Some have a button to patch in, I don't - it just works. So, there are so many versions of everything on BMW that no two cars are the same.

Thanks for all the replies regarding bluetooth, I will give it a go, however I have no steering wheel controls so I dunno whether it'll work?

I better try and find that bluetooth code too....

I don't have steering wheel controls on mine, but it can be paired by the button in the centre console (if not broken/faulty) and controlled via the satnav screen ...

When you press the menu button and select telephone, what message do you see? Activate Phone?

The easiest software to use to program/change functions on these in the Carly app. Its a doddle to use and does include the bleep on/off alarm function. Beyond that your into dealer level stuff that can be installed on a laptop etc but its much more involved to install/use. If your a novice and just want to change a few things or read a few codes then Id recommend Carly, although that said its code reading can be a bit hit and miss with a few phantom codes picked up that if you immediately scan with the dealer stuff aren't actual there.

Well it appears my cars just too old to work with my galaxy s8 sadly, I can go through the full pairing process, even comes on on the cars screen saying galaxy s8 but the phone just says pairing failed, and continuously asks for permission to access my contacts which when I say yes to fails and then asks again 30 seconds later!
