Coupes - Maximum Velocity

I get asked a lot how fast the car goes, and my response is always limited to 155. I know that the 3.0si coupes are electronically limited to 155mph, but does anyone know (in theory) what their top speeds would be, if the limiters were 'removed'.

Have searched the web and can't find any info regarding unlimited speeds.

Thanks

Alistair

The ///M tops out (in 5th, and GPS verified in Germany) at 168mph, so I assume the 3.0si must be between 155mpgh and 168mph :P

What does it do in sixth, or have I missed something?..

The speed limiter kicks in in 6th - doing it in 5th means it's only the rev limiter that stops progress.

An e46 M3 will be doing 175-185mph (depending upon engine variances) in top gear at the artificial limit of 6500rpm, the Z4MC has a higher drag co of .35 (e46 = .33) which should adversely affect the top speed, but...the Z4 has a lower frontal area than M3 and so at high speed (Form drag) it may actually exceed the M3s top speed.

170-185mph for the ///MC,

No idea what the N52 is capable of, sorry.

The m54 in a z4r in stock form will do 165mph in gran turismo 5.... Assuming the coupe's extra weight is offset by the extra 30 ponies in the n52 with the coupe's lower ratio final gear I would say 160!

A facelift roadster will obviously do more then 165.... So there you go Taz the roadsters are better :poke: :fuelfire:

I seem to recall reading that the limiter only acts in 6th so in theory change down at 150 and back up to top at 156 to keep going to VMax.

I don't remember changing the limiter speed being an option when I had some configuration changes made on the ECU a while back.

Who's off to Germany to try it then?

That said, having attained a GPS verified 146 MPH on the main runway at RAF Marham in my 350Z I'm not sure I'd want to attempt those speeds on any public road even if legal as the stopping/slowing distances are so huge.

I'd give it a go at Bruntingthorpe though

i did 140 out in germany just recently, i'm man enough to admit that i was going faster than my comfort zone, i suppose i could get used to it, but boy things are flying past at those speeds

I've had mine reading 160 on the clock but it was slightly down hill and not to sure how accurate the speedo is. I was a bit shocked when i looked down and realised how fast i was actually going but when theres nothing coming towards you its not to bad.

A friend of mine owns a 3.0si. He had the limiter removed via re-programming the ECU. I also had this done but not for top speed.
So, he told me a story one day(BS or not BS, I don't know)
He was driving on a local HWY when a M3 egged him on. OF course, they took off and the M3 pulled ahead, but when he hit the limiter, my friend passed him with no problem. All he knows is that the speedo was pegged. So, your guess is as good as mine as to how fast he can really go.

Mine is still limited as far as I know and recorded just over 170mph clock speed on the way back from the last Ring Trip and the limiter cut in. I don't think it had much left to go anyway to be honest. Then reduced back to 160mph clock speed for a 15 minute run with no problem but those German concrete central reservations give you the fear and it messes up your speed perception when you drop back down to normal real world speeds again. I reckon around 175-180mph would be an achievable max with no limiter.

at 140 the roadster roof will blown off so sod off aquazi :P
Not true as I've had mine to 145 or just a bit more and I still have my roof.... :poke:

160 and still had a roof on my convertible E46M3.....I had the E89 over 150 with the roof down and the wind noise was terrible, but on the good side it will cure the dandruff for a long time... :P

PS: I don't have limiters on my cars and I believe that 185 is quite achievable in my white one. I was only in the top half of 6th and had 7th to go when I had to shut it down for oncoming traffic.
