To be fair you could manage that, depending how you use it.

Over the 14,000 miles I did in my 2nd E86 it averaged the right side of 34mpg. But it never did a commute, wasn't driven in rush hours and generally did longer runs mostly outside of built up areas - I had a daily for that boring stuff!

If you’re not pushing on, then I don’t see that figure as unobtainable. Maybe a little high for an overall average though.

My Z4MC has got 32mpg on the run from Calais to the Nurburg in a steady 100-110kph convoy...which makes up a little for the 6-8mpg it gets on the track :P

Overall average in mine has been 27mpg...which includes long commutes, weekend hoons, track days and Ring trips.

When I worked in Liverpool and travelled from Worcestershire, my ave mpg was 38 for the round trip.

Set cruise control for most of the journey each way at 72.

My opinion only but “returns 35+ mpg” to me does not mean on a 1 long run with optimum speed and conditions. I know it’s human to quote the best figure you have achieved but in the real world, it returns what the average mpg shows over a few thousand miles and that isn’t 35+mpg.
I had a 335D x drive that was supposed to average 51mpg, I really tried to get it close to that and the best I got was 44 mpg on 1 journey. Real time average over a few thousand miles was 38.
