Coupe oil change + coat hook

Hi guys,

I hate trying to figure these things sometimes. I have a 2006 Coupe 3 Litre. No magic "M" unfortunately. Having read the manual I need BMW Long Life-01 oil which is fair enough. I can get 8 litres for approx £80 online and feel reasonably confortable having a go at draining the oil (assuming the coupe procedure is the same as that of the soft top as which always appears referred to in any instruction posts!).

Anyway I trundling through the web and came across opieoils.co.uk (I am in no way affiliated with this site btw) who appear quite highly recommended on various forums I have seen. They offer a Z4 oil service pack for £60 but achieving BMW LL-04 standards. Is the LL04 better / newer?

I know its only £20 difference and I will likely go with LL01 as per the manual but anyone want to comment on the difference and whether it would make any difference to things?

Also my second question - has anyone come up with a coat hook option for the coupe. I certainly cannot see one but has anyone improvised with something that doesnt just look tacky? Jackets looking a bit tatty when I lay it in boot too often!

Cheers

OpieOils are great. I been getting all my oil from there for the last 3-4 years.

They have competitive prices anyway, but if you register you get a 10% discount too.

LL01 is the long-life spec from 2001 (hence the '01), the LL04 is the latest spec set in 2004.

Anything from the LL01 or LL04 spec will be fine - no need to go for the most expensive either - the Motul & Fuchs are as good (if not better) than the Castrol & Mobil.

It's strange that their oil service packs offer 8 gallons of oil plus a filter for less than the 8 gallons of oil are by themselves - I think I'll start ordering the service packs and dump the oil filter if I'm not using it.

In your case you could go for the 7 litres plus filter for as little as £51 (Fuchs Titan oil) with member discount - or with 7 litres of Castrol Edge 5w30 for £54. No brainer I think.

BTW, if you're a member of any of these clubs/forums then you can get membership quite quickly/easily.

Nice one. Thanks for the reply mmm-five. I was trying to figure out why such a difference in price. Thank you for re-assuring me!

My Z4 has a coat hook under each roll bar. Its part of the wind diflector mesh/clear plastic :)

Unfortunately no equivelent on the Coupe :(

I am sure someone is going to point it out to me and I gonna feel very daft for not spotting it.

Hmm, I thought there was a coat hook in the coupe....I'll have to look again. I think there's also an OEM add on that slips over the back of the seat and allows you to hang a suit coat up.

There was a accessory on the BMW site a couple of weeks ago, but the Z4 seems to have been removed from the catalogue.

You can buy 9 litres of castrol edge 0w-30 from ebay for 56 delivered, matt something motorsport is the trader name/shop. :driving:
