Coupe door leak.

Morning all.
The passenger door on my coupe has sprung a leak. Car has been completely dry in the 2 years of my ownership until recently. It seems to have started after the car sat with snow on it for a while. I have not investigated the waterproofing sheet in the door but the card has not been off in my ownership and was fine in any weather up to the snow. The leak now seems to happen after any significant rain. Car is currently sorned and has not moved in weeks, so it is not water being driven up from the road. Drivers side is dry.

The door seals all look complete and are soft, i.e not gone hard or perished. ?? window seals.

Any ideas as to what might have happened, or where to look ?

Thanks for the response, but no, not in my ownership. The leak has only started recently so I don't really expect it to be the membrane as it was fine before the snow and nothing has been done that might affect it.
 
I think I'd still be checking it just in case.
If it sat with snow on it, then potentially water could have frozen and expanded enough to unseat the sealing somewhere.
 
I had the same problem, it was the membrane behind the door card
it's amazing how the water can come in even with a very light rain :wink:

I need to do mine when the weather picks up. Little drips into the passenger footwell when it pisses down.. :thumbsup:
 
Looking at your photos reminded me of my situation.

Thank you all. Very helpful. The effect of freezing was probably my next port of call in respect of the window seals and the membrane. It did get to around -6 here with the snow on the car so a possibility and it seems a bit of a co-incidence that the leak started soon afterwards. I'll give the additional door drain pipe a go as well. It can't hurt and may be the issue. I know under the scuttle is clean as I had all that apart recently.
If I find the culprit I'll update.
 
I actually have a full outdoor cover ! but didn't put it on as I was worried about the wind, and the snow took us a bit by surprise.... Note to self - clear building work fall-out from the garage !
 
Hi, I recently posted about a leak from the door. If you remove the door card and pour some water down the outside glass you will see straight away if the butyl seal is compromised and if water leaks from behind the membrane. I had two attempts because I didn't ensure the surfaces were free of oily residue which caused the butyl to not stick. I ended up buying a big reel of butyl from BMW for about £20. Worth it, very sticky, second attempt did it. No water has seeped in since.
If you need to replace the sealant, don't forget to disconnect the ground on the battery and wait for 10 minutes before removing the door air bag. Avoids having to reset the airbag warning light.

Normally it's the membrane inside the door card, between the door and door card, between hat comes loose.
Buy a new Membrane,as they aren't too expensive and trying to re stick the existing one is usually not very successful, cheers
