Thanks. Could you explain more about the last point - what does that prevent?Not sure why they're getting all dramatic about cutting them off. For the small extra cost simply replace both the inner and outer control arms, then you know everything is clean and won't seize again. The inner end simply screws into the rack, so pop the outer ball joint off with a splitter, then unwind the whole assembly as one.
May I also suggest that, while it's apart, you ask them to wind the steering fully to the right and apply grease to the gear teeth on the righthand end of the rack.
It is basically preventing the gearing from the column input to the rack from drying out. This can lead to odd noises and sometimes a form of sticky steering. It is a 2 minute job that can be seen as a preventative measure.Thanks. Could you explain more about the last point - what does that prevent?
