So this is my daughter's Mini (again).
She decided to check the coolant level while away from home the other day. Apparently neither she, nor her idiot boyfriend who was with her, could see the level in the expansion tank properly, even though it is at the very front of the engine bay and is a transparent bottle!
So, the said idiot boyfriend decided to remove the expansion tank cap to look inside. The car was hot and he obviously unscrewed the cap quickly, so boiling hot coolant sprayed out all over the engine bay (and him). Unfortunately he wasn't severely burned, just an absolute dickhead.
He put the cap back on and they drove home!
:x
So I was told about this yesterday when I realised the expansion tank was empty and there was coolant everywhere, except where it should be. :x
Problem is, there is now an airlock in the system somewhere and I can't seem to remove it. I topped up the reservoir/ expansion tank and ran the engine. I have bled it via the bleedscrew on the thermostat housing (probably THE most inaccessible they could have thought of) and there is coolant coming out now. But the heater matrix won't get warm and the coolant keeps filling up the expansion tank and overflowing out of the cap!
My question is (after my rant about stupid teenagers); should I wait for the thermostat to open before bleeding again? Or are there any other tips to getting this airlock out?
I really don't want to be draining the system, as I only replaced the thermostat and coolant about 200 miles ago.
