Coolant Low

Morning all,

Had this come up this morning, turned it off and back on 5 mins later and my check control on the screen now says "no faults".

I've not actually checked it yet but if it's slightly low can I just top it up? Do I need specific coolant?

Thanks for any help.

i think its the blue bmw coolant you need. yes you can just top it up, however the cooling system is a sealed system and thus should not require topping up, especially on such a new motor, so maybe a sensor issue or maybe a small leak somewhere.

keep your eye on it anyhow :)

Its a good idea to open the bonnet now and again and check these things manually.
If you go to Halfords and look through the book next to coolants for your model it will tell you what stuff you need.

Cheers guys, I normally do keep a check on these things but I must admit, I've not checked the coolant level for a few months, just take for granted that it should be ok!

I'll go and open the bonnet and have a look soon, it was a tad colder this morning so maybe just a sensor having a hissy fit.

As said, it is a sealed system so you shouldn't be losing any, especially a 14 plate.

I'd have a quick check under the bonnet and make sure all is well and keep an eye on it. If the warning pops up again it should be going to the dealer regardless, either for a coolant top up and inspection under warranty or a faulty sensor replacement under warranty.

Thanks all. Spoke to a mechanic and he's said it's quite normal for it to drop a bit especially when the temps are all over the place.... he topped it up not needing a lot and just said check it every now and then
