Coolant light on and off

I had the coolant light coming on at the start of most journeys, then going off after a minute or so. So, I took it to the garage and go the coolant changed as it has not been changed since I have had the car. Problem is, now the coolant light goes on and off every few minutes all the time! I took it back to the garage and the guy told me he recons it is an air lock in the system but they were closing up so if I want them to look at it I will have to go back again.

Does this sound right? Is it easy enough to fix? The temperature of the engine was fine throughout the journey, and I got them to re-check the coolant level, which was fine.

mine has come on a lot recently always needed a sligt top up! not sure if this is related to ur thread- sorry if its not- just mine seems to have a mind of its own

I had this on my 3 Series recently. The problem was the coolant level sensor. This was replaced for about £20 or so. Problem solved.

Thanks guys... thing is, before it went for service the light was on, then went off each trip, making me think it needed topping up or replacing. It is only after the coolant was replaced it it now on and off. This morning it came on and stayed on for the whole trip.

Would the coolant replacement have knackered the sensor? Is it possible to replace it or is it a stealership job?

I had the front end done following an RTA and they didn't completely connect one of the top hoses. It let in air and the light kept coming on. It needs bleeding and any leaks checking
