I noticed the other day my coolant level had dropped to below the minimum? I topped it up but wondered why it should drop, would it be because of the warm weather we have been having or could it be losing some through the expansion cap? I cant see any leaks in the engine bay....

It will only drop If you lose fluid somewhere, but it does go up and down depending on the temperature of the engine(Coolant).

Make sure you check it when cold or at least the same temperature that you checked on the previous occasion to make a a proper comparison.

It will only come out through the expansion cap If it has been overfilled previously and possibly if it's overheating in a bad way for e.g. head gasket allowing combustion gases into the coolant system!

i had a very small fluid leak on the hose from the thermostat housing to the bottom of the Radiator.

i only saw it when i was able to pump the system up using a hand pump.

my dealer did it for me, and i bought the spares from them

if you are losing fluid, dont put it off, as you might get caught out if it fails.

Thanks guys, I ran the car all afternoon yesterday in the soaring heat and was stationary in traffic for part of it, checked last night and it was fine, perhaps I never noticed it wasn't on the max before....
