I am a new owner of a 100,000km e86 3.0si coupe
Still trying to gather data on the importance of the issue.
Herby what I know so far:
- The ball marked minimum first time I checked after 3,000km /1,800 miles of ownership
- 1,000km / 600 miles later it was about 1cm / 0.4inch lower.
- All measurements taken with the engine cold
- I just topped it up today to maximum, and will monitor its behavior.
- There's no coolant spills on the bottom tray nor coolant sweat on the expansion tank hoses.
I've read about cracks in the expansion tank. What do you think? Other potential causes that can lead to coolant draining? I did the last trip of 705km with no dash indicator nor engine overheating despite the coolant level being lower than minimum at arrival to destination.
I had to only add maybe 250ml to top it off today, not much more than that, definetly less than 0.5l
Where do you recommend I start in order to find the root cause or do some preventive maintenance?
