Coolant and oil lights.

I don't know if I ought to be concerned about this - so hoping for some guidance...

When I start the car, the coolant light comes on in amber sometimes. It then goes away after a couple of minutes ... stays off for the rest of the journey. It may or may not come on the next time I turn the ignition on.

Also, a couple of times when I've turned the ignition off the oil light has come on - also in amber. I got the oil changed only a couple of months ago.

Does anyone know what this could mean? Anything to be concerned about?

Yep, and sounds like you might need to top up the oil too, although not too much if the light is intermittent, maybe 2-300ml only.

Awesome - thanks. I was hoping it would be that simple ... but since I only had it changed a while ago I was concerned! Especially since the coolant light was coming on too.

I just got the coolant light today. Which coolant is advised for this car? I'm about 1.5 hours round trip to the nearest BMW dealer, so i'd prefer to buy local. Suggestions? My Chevy was really picky, if you didn't use theirs it would turn to sludge (happened to me!) and plug up your heater core, so I want to make sure I get the right stuff.
