Converting matt black into gloss

This is a stupid question but Im not keen on the matt black grills, and want to have them gloss black instead. Can I simply go over the matt paint with a few layers of clear coat? Or will I need to spray it with gloss black paint first?

Are they painted Matt? Or is it just the plastic. Rub them down coat with gloss that's what I did

The're ABS plastic. So just spray it with paint as there's no need to sand it down? Surely spraying down primer would be pointless.

Definitely rub down first, will flatten the primer and provide a better key. The standard of finish is always based on the preparation

This is the grill's I have just now.

Would always use a plastic primer on abs plastic, and rub down between coats to get the best finish. Have never tried paint directly on plastic - is it a special plastic paint?

No idea, it came like that through the post. Il give it a coat of primer just to be sure

I sprayed my previous z4 grills satin black and all I did was rub the grills with a Scotch/scouring pad and sprayed the paint straight on. I never had any probs of paint peeling or stone chips.
I have done exactly the same with the Zed I have now and 6 months later is just like the day I sprayed them.
