I just had the 2nd new top pump in 18 months installed, and the problem isn't fixed. In June I brought the car in because the top went into a free fall the last 1/3 of the down operation. The shop replaced a mico switch and after 3-4 cycles the top returned to the free fall action. The shop then said I needed a new pump. That was installed last month. The 3rd time I operated the top, it began going into a free fall for the last 1/3 of the retraction again. The shop claims no - the system is not low on fluid, yes - the lines were bled. A third party said new pumps ususally fail because of incorrect wiring. Has anyone had a problem with what I describe as a free fall drop, and if so what was the remedy. Is it likely I got 2 defective pumps from BMW? Also, will that free falling damage the system if allowed to continue? I appreciate any help as I have now put more than $3000 trying to get the top to function as it should and it is still not right.
