Considerations for circa 50k mileage Z4C

Hi all,

What upcoming maintenance is likely for a 2007 Z4C sitting at 48,000 miles? I know it will imminently be due an Inspection 2, but what our general maintenance is likely to be required at this sort of mileage? Suspension refreshes i.e. new bushes? Anything under the hood (bearing in mind it has been serviced to correct intervals prior to this.)

One thing I never seem to see mentioned on here are clutch changes; how often are these likely to be required?

Thanks for your help all,
Chris,

Unless the car has had a hard life then. I would hope there is nothing other than the inspection 2. Mine is closing in on that sort of mileage, I had the inspection 2 done in the spring. I also hand the front brake disks and pads replaced for the second time, but I think there was something wrong with my last set of front disks, so I replaced them very early after just 16k of normal brisk road driving. Is it a 3ltr?

I bought my Z4C last year with 54,000 and I've just had the bushes done in the lower control arms (lollipops as I think they are better known) and it steers much better with no tramlining - probably should have had them done sooner.
Springs break fairly frequently - mine had new rear springs soon after 30,000 miles so now it is at 60K I'm just hoping they hang on a bit longer than the first pair!
Don't know about clutches going but mine is on the original and it's still got plenty of bite.
I believe the electric water pumps can fail at this sort of mileage but fingers crossed mine is OK for now!
But I can live with these things for the grin it puts on my face every time I drive it. :driving:

Good shout up on the water pump , along with the routine bushes & springs which are relatively cheap this seems to be a weak spot & at £500ish can be a kick in the nuts :o replaced at 70k iirc on my 3.0 coupe

Ouch, that was a kick in the wrong place - didn't realise it was that expensive. :!: Is a pump that dear, or is it labour intensive?
Hope mine keeps performing as it should!

Thanks guys. It's a 3.0Si.

So essentially a short list would be:

Rear springs
Brake discs
Bushes (lollipops)
Potentially water pump

Basically I am trying to decide if the BMW 12month warratny is worth it at £549...or a non-BMW warranty.

I had the water pump replaced on mine this year after it failed (07 plate and 45k miles). BMW quote was £1250, independent was £800. I bought my pump on ebay.de (£200) and got a BMW indy in Hayes to fit it (£250) so not bad all in all.

As for the car in question it could be anywhere from £10-12k depending on spec, condition, history, etc.

All low mileage 07s will likely need insp 2 this year..

PM'ed Bluestreak ;)

Do many people shell out for the BMW extended warranty? Is it worth it? Is it even a possibility if the car has a mixture of main dealer and specialist history? What about a Warranty Wise or similar warranty?

You pays your money and makes your choice.

IMO put the money away each month that you would pay into a warranty (insurance) policy for a rainy day. But in saying that I don't mind getting my hands dirty either, so if you don't like wielding spanners etc then perhaps a warranty is for you.
