Connects 2 Ipod Connector

Hi All,

In my last car, I had a "Connects 2" ipod connector (http://www.connects2.co.uk/).
It worked wonderfully; it charged the iPod, it displayed the Artist, Album and Track details on-screen on the OEM radio, and the CD changer buttons allowed me to sellect one of the first five playlists (in alphabetical order) arranged on the iPod, with the sixth button being the "on-the-go" playlist.
It came with either a cradle, so you could dash mount the iPod for easy access, or a "stealth" carrier, that could be attached underneath the footwell, the seat, or anywhere out of site (It was a semi-rigid black case, with a soft cotton interior, that just velcro'd to what you wanted to attach it to.

All in all, I would swear by their kit..... for the Ford Focus.

The question is, I did a bit of rummaging around, and saw that they also do a connector for the Z4... and was wondering if anyone else has used it with their Z4 and what results they had?

If no-ones, done so, then I'll probably do it, as the new connector is only £34, so when compared to some of the alternatives, it's quite a cheap experiment... but obviously, if the "research" has already been done...... lol

Hi,

I paid £40 for the BMW equivalent - seems to do the same things, and you don't need the cradle as there is the ipod pouch near the connectors under the armrest (unless this is an option?!).

Works perfectly in mine - radio / cds are history!

Ah yes... I think I should point out I'm talking about the pre-facelift, E85, rather than the new spangly E89 :)

If only there WAS a BMW equivalent for my car :'(

It has an Ipod specific connector, and a USB connector which goes into the USB Port in the car... Works ok with my Itouch and standard Ipod, but cant see it would charge a satnav... The link shows the car connectors - the other end is the Ipod connector...

hah! what do you know! BMW actually retrofit the iPod connector to the E89 too!

Just rang up my local stealer to get a quote on getting it done / getting the parts.

Oooo I'd be interested in this... Let me know the outcome!

Cheers,

Will do. I also asked about the "AUX" socket retrofit too, so should get prices given for both...
Just hope they actually DO ring back!

hahah...haha...ha.....haha....no.

£585 inc vat for the iPod connector.
£412 inc vat for the AUX connector.

Told him it costs £99 for a non BMW iPod connector and about 30 mins fitting time, not the 4 hours he quoted.
So he's going to reinvestigate.

I knew main dealers are stealers, but didn't think they'd try and take your kneecaps too!

am i right in thinking your radio displays all track info from the ipod?

Sure does - I have the USB option though, not sure if that makes a difference or if it would do that as standard? You can also navigate playlists, artists etc, and set random - pretty cool really.

ok.. newest price is £142.50 (inc VAT) for the iPod kit.
The reason it was so high before was that they reckoned it needed coding as well as fitting (so, 4 hours labour).
After telling them I could get an after-market kit that just plugs in for £99.99, he "had a look" and decided that the E89 doesn't infact need coding, but would still take four hours to fit.

Suffice to say, I've just ordered the kit (which comes with instructions apparently) and will pay the £142.50 for the official BMW connector, then will take a Saturday afternoon leisurely fitting it :)

lol

Oh, and the AUX kit was just £92.75 and again doesn't need coding.

Nope.. that's just the kit - hence the reason I went for the iPod kit, not the AUX.

£145 aint too bad, considering it's built for the car, does everything I want, and doesn't appear to be a PITA to fit... lol

yup. charges whilst the stereo is on, switches the ipod off when the stereo is off.

If anyone's interested, I can do a "howto" with pics when it turns up...
