connecting phone

I've got no manual so sorry for all the questions! When I press the r/t button it says no phone and when I search on my phone for Bluetooth devices nothing shows. Does this mean my car is not fitted with Bluetooth? If so, am I best off going for an aftermarket handsfree kit?

Thanks

Do you have any kind of kit in the drop down centre from rear bulkhead ?

Nope. Nothing.

Then I doubt you have Bluetooth however if you want definitive proof
Try an Indie /Dealer they will tell you either by looking for the box in Boot or plugging in to Diags

Z4 pagey in the drop down console between the seats there will be a button on the back of the door of the storage compartment. If you have that button you have the Bluetooth. If you do have it, hold the button with the car off and as you are holding the button turn the ignition on, the radio will then display something like "pairing"

Then find the car on your phone. You will need to know the Bluetooth pairing code as they are car specific. After you have paired the phone turn off the ignition and then it will automatically pair everytime you get in the car. The car will keep trying to pair with other devices of you don't turn the car off after it has paired.

If you find that you don't have Bluetooth then you don't need to read any of the above. But you wouldn't have got to this part without reading it so apologies for saying your time. Haha

Thanks Andrew! Turns out I do have Bluetooth :) not a very user friendly system though! The sound isn't coming through the speakers when making/receiving calls. How do I change this? :headbang:

Umm I thought you said nothing in the dropdown arm
pm me with your email and I can send a pdf of the BMW Communication booklet relevant pages

I was looking for some sort of Bluetooth box or something. Didn't realise it was just a button :headbang: pm sent. Much appreciated :D

Glad to hear it pagey, the sound is probably working just that you wont hear it ring. It will only come on when the other person picks up the phone. If you receive a call though it will ring obviously.

The speakers crackle and then it disconnects from the speaker and diverts it back through my phone. This happens every 10 seconds or so...

Luckily not... I've been brought up to support arsenal :)
