Connecting Android to BMW Professional + New Z4 :-)

Firstly, the new car.......i'm in love. I had the biggest smile when i left the showroom and the sun was out. Everyone at work keeps asking how much I'm on and one of my neighbour was asking how i can afford it. They all thought it was 35-45k, lol

Anyway back to the original question. I have a std bmw professional system with galaxy s2 phone. I can pair the phone up using bluetooth for the phone setup. However I spoke to my dealer and he says i can't stream using bluetooth, i'd have to use the usb port. Bit gutted about that so i thought i'd just connect it using the usb. The first problem is when i connect it it goes into kies usb, now i'm guessing that'll stop the bluetooth telephone from working (correct me if i'm wrong)?

Npw my other problem is that my music is in various folder, when i select all i can all in the bmw professional system i can see a list of all my songs. when i select it the system just hangs. I'm wondering where i'm going wrong. Are people downloading some sort of app or is there a setting on the android that i haven't setup yey.

I'm very confused. My experience would be perfect with some decent tunes with the roof down. If i have to listen to chris moyles on the drive into work tomorrow i may have to throw myself under a bus!

I could not get my htc desire to play audio over Bluetooth worked in all other cars I tried but not the z, iPhone works fine though

It's brand spanking new, picked her up on Sunday. I would have thought it would have worked on an s2 until I spoke to the dealer

I have a Samsung Galaxy and it works fine for me.

Which usb port are you connecting it to? In the centre console or the glovebox?

Welcome btw!

I'm using the glovebox one, does it make a difference? If I could somehow use Bluetooth that'd be awesome.

It doesn't mention anything in the manual

And hello everyone :-)

The glovebox one is just for transferring music from your device to the cars' hard drive.(See page 115 of your manual) Try it in the centre console usb port.

Are you connecting it to the centre console usb then just playing it on your phone rather than trying to control it via the idrive?
If you do it should play through the car and you can then control volume etc on the idrive.
It just plays what you have chosen to play on your device (phone/ipod etc)

It'll still be the same I think. Connect the phone to the centre console usb and play the music from the phone itself.

Buy a 32GB usb memory stick and stick all your music on that.

I think there is a BMW website which shows which phones will work with which features etc, although I have no idea where it is.

It may not have the media connection. I have iDrive and one USB connection under the arm rest but it isn't the media connection so won't play music from the iPhone and you can't see the iPhone on the screen either. You should also have a mini jack connector under the armrest and you can play music from the phone using a lead there, but you have to control it from the phone.
What year is the car as the media connectivity changed around end of 2010 I think.

Should work under arm rest as previously stated iDrive or not. Have flimper spec myself and it works fine. Either get a USB stick as Kevin has said or a decent phone like an iPhone :poke:

You'll be glad to know I didn't throw myself under a bus. I finally got it sorted, you have to go into settings, wireless and networks, USB utilities. You then have to select USB mass storage. If you press this before it won't work. Once you press it then plug it in, then like magic it works. If you have it plugged in and then select connect it seems to throw a wobbler. I have a work iPhone, but love my s2 as it has all my music on. Very happy, really impressed with th sound quality, must be the size of the cabin. Thanks so much to everyone for looking into it for me, looking forward to been an active member of the forum :D
