Just watched history being made, Bradley Wiggins, the First British Tour De France Winner, Fantastic :D :D :happyclap:

After many years of watching the tour with no Brits even taking part I'm not sure I've really fully registered what's happening these last few years. Thought Cav winning a stage was amazing 4 years ago - now commonplace!, thought Froome second at Vuelta was amazing - now overshadowed, thought cycling was a minority tv sport - looking forward to that changing too :) :D

I just watched it in my local pub - and was the only one interested.

As soon as the race finished the all the other patrons turned over to watch the golf - 'this is not a sport' ...... heathens!

What an achievement and congrats to Mark Cavendish for winning the final stage.

likened by some to the 1966 world cup win 8) epic achievement & a thoroughly enjoyable sporting spectacle .
chl 120 every evening at 7pm for 3 weeks every summer is the highlight of my tv year .
stood for 3 hours in the pouring rain last year to watch a stage in normandy . . . loved every minute , , , the frenchies having a full picnic with tables & chairs by the roadside with fishing umbrella over was most memorable :D

+1  amazing howmany people aren't interested, but then I say that as someone going on holiday over the Olympics lol

Not something i follow, but appreciate that its the most gruelling of cycling events in the world.

A fantastic achievement by Bradley, and his team. He deserves to be honoured.

It was incredible. Anyone that even completes the tour is super human, to win as another level.

I can't wait for the Olympic cycling events.

Watched it everyday and a true spectacle to see the oh-so strong Sky team take the yellow jersey and control it all race with the excitement of seeing Cavendish taking sprint finishes, almost at will.

I think Bradley Wiggins has done a fantastic thing in winning the Tour.

I don't personally following cycling though. Not the greatest spectator sport IMO and too many drug cheats as well at the top of the sport. Leaves you wondering if any of them aren't on something dodgy. The same reason I can take or leave athletics as well.

Sorry but I'd much rather watch the Open golf as well!

Agree about the drugs in Cycling, but this year seems to have been pretty good as no banned drugs were detected only a a couple of cases of prescriptive drugs, funny that as soon as the competition is drug free, the Brits Win. :D

The only downside of the whole thing was that Wiggins, Froome & Cavendish all cycled for Team Sky.... I Hate Sky.

Went out for a ride on my bike this morning. Disappointed that no one shouted 'Allez Wiggo'. I can only think that cycling is losing it's popularity already.

Also team orders meant no one else had a chance

But it's a real event of individual and team vs team and individual. No way could any of the 3 Sky riders have achieved what they did without the support of the others.

Just look how Wiggins set up Cavendish to win on the final stage, etc.
On the last day in the Pyrenees Frrome could have ridden off but perhaps Nibali would have then overtaken Wiggins without Froome making enough himself.

I just find it amazing to watch the last 10 to 15k of each days event as the strategy and tactics unfold.

It'll be on event I watch on the Olympics
