Cone filters / induction

Looking to replace the standard air box with something that sounds a bit better..


Dont want to go down expensive induction kits (due to cost and insurance) so was just looking at air filters..

Has anyone got any suggestions? Im struggling to find something that fits a 3.0, they are all for 2.5's.

Would this fit given that its the same 3.0i engine? My mate has one on his e46 and it sounds great

Don't see why not... as you say they are the same engine so attaching to the air intake should be straight forward!

The only issue you potentially have is mounting, the image shows a bracket that attaches to the strut tower, Z4 may not be the same as E46 in that respect.
 
I've had a Ramair foam cone filter fitted to my 3.0si before, now replaced with an AFE induction kit (better cone filter and heat shielding) but effectively the same. The Ramair is effectively an induction kit, and needs declaring to your insurance company (as mine is).
 
If its for a 2.5i, the intake hose wont fit on a 3.0i MAF.

Speaking from personal experience here. I ended up buying a silicone reducer on ebay. Worked a treat.

Also no need to mount the filter. It will fit fine without any brackets.

Shouldnt the ramair be declared as an aftermarket air filter? its got no hose inlet or heat shield and i wouldn't have classed as a proper induction kit
 
It all comes down to semantics really but by fitting a cone filter you have "modified" the air intake system.

Id argue that its a performance air filter therefore could be declared as a modified air filter.

Ill ring them over the weekend

Any other suggestions other than ramair?
