Condensation

Hi, I bought a coupe last September and later noticed a swimming pool under the carpets both sides. Left it until last week to look into. Seats out and side trims off, carpet lifted as much as possible and left the doors open for a week in the sun. The carpets and floor dried out completely so put back down. Next day went to put seats back only to find floors wet again. No rain, only hot sun, car under SORN so not moved, this must be condensation between cold metal floor and foam under carpet. Anyone else got this issue? Going to try a waterproof membrane but this seems strange.

The foam under the carpet can hold literally litres of water. I would be very surprised if you could dry them out after being soaked with only a week with the doors open.

This is more common in roadsters but is usually related to failing door membranes or the front drain holes (below the windscreen scuttle) becoming blocked up and channelling water through the front bulkhead.

Drain holes at the front possibly, someone did a drain hole location thread somewhere…..

Years ago we had a pipe burst and soak several rooms. The insurers brought in large dehumidifiers and left them running for a week or so. Perhaps you could run an extension lead to your car and plonk a dehumidifier on one of the seats to try and draw out the moisture? I think you can rent them.

good shout that

Lift the carpets again, wedge towels underneath them and weigh the carpets down with old batteries or something similar. Keep changing the towels until you've squeezed the foam dry.
