Cold Engine Noise

My Z4 3.0i with approximately 800 miles on the odometer has a relatively loud tapping engine noise when started (Cold Engine). Once driven a 1/4 mile or so, the noise disappears and doesn't resurface until the engine is completely cool (3-4 hours later). Doesn't sound like a valve tap as it's rather sporadic. Sound more like a marble bounce on the plastic engine cowling. Has anyone experienced this?

its going to dealers on saturday, unfortunately its not done it since, not sure if thats good or bad news

Thank you for the response. Great insight from those experiencing the ticking sound of the cold engine. Looks like it's a common characteristic of the 3.0 engine.
