Coilover question / what’s this?

Just wondering what this bit of metal is for on the bottom of the coilover...is it to stop the suspension falling all the way through if something fails or is that where It should sit on top of the hub (hub butts up to it then tighten? My collar will not tighten round the smaller collar for whatever reason this time so I’m double checking it was done right the first time?

Any help much appreciated...thank you

it's to mark the centre line of the strut, it should be positioned in the centre open section of the hub collar, where the pinch bolt goes through.

slacken off the pinch bolt fully, the smaller section sticks out the bottom of the hub and it will tighten around the section with the locating pin your finger is on

Yeah that's right... but it'll be in the gap! I think the OEM struts have 2 of them, one above and one below the bolt! My coilovers just have the one that slides nicely into the gap and butts up to the bolt

Seriously made my day...hated how the car sat at the front because it was to high...just got it back together and looks so good! Thanks again mate
