Coastal/cottage short break recommendations

Hi all
My brother and his family are coming over mid June for 2 weeks from the US on holiday and I thought it would be nice to get out of London and show them somewhere else in England for 3-4 nights. Thought a pretty cottage somewhere or a coastal apartment might be a good idea. My brother is a big fan of pubs so having those in close proximity would be ideal. Anyone recommend something appropriate, or indeed own one that is free to rent during the period above? Would need to accommodate 4-6 adults and 3 children.

i highly recommend Whitby and surrounding areas, and Robin Hoods Bay

if you get to whitby when its one of their Goth weekends your US family will be amazed :thumbsup: i know it doesnt sound 'awesome' but its something you have to see, and the yanks love that kind of thing especially being surrounded by north yorkshire moors :D

Whitby is great. Robin hoods bay is a fantastic lol title alcove with pubs and a great beach or even a visit to Scarborough, a typical seaside town, all with fantastic driving rounds around and about for the zed.

Im just back from Cornwall, lovely visually and nice people, recommend St Ives , Fowey, padstow. Complete contrast to London and shows both sides of the UK.

I agree with Maniac - Cornwall does get you away from it all. The Lake District NOT Bowness) is very nice as well.

I think that you may,find it difficult to book a cottage/apartment for less then 7 days in June. These cottages are just outside of St Ives. We have stayed there 4 times and have always been super-impressed. The people who run it are really helpful and may do a split week:

Thank you for some very nice suggestions, I've started to think it might be easier (quite possibly cheaper?) if we hop on a plane from Heathrow (10 mins up the road) to spend a couple of nights in a sunny European location instead. A lot places suggested are a good 5 hr+ driving from West London which is a lot for a 3 night stay.
