Just been tinkering in the garage before the fight tonight and was thinking if its really worth doing the delete and is it easy enough?

Cheers

I've had the CDV removed from my last 5 BMWs and they have all driven better without it. :D

So you can tell from that I haven't done it, but I believe it is pretty straightforward.

not a mind-blowing change, but it does make a positive difference. More predictable friction point, positive early engagement at spirited driving. Be careful downshifting at full go however as that would stress the transmission, learn to rev match if you haven't yet. Easily reversible if you don't like it, just keep the valve.

Made a big difference to mine, it stopped the judder when cold pulling off in first.

is it just a case of unscrewwing the middle part, taking out and reassembling the 2 pipes together?

indeed. the hardest thing is getting the car up on the jacks if you don't have access to a lift

100% do it

1/2/3 gear changes will feel better and if you do quick changes you’ll really notice the difference

2x 17mm spanner
11mm spanner
Mole grips
7mm

Use the two 17mm Spanners to break the cdv off the main clutch hose

Mole grips on the hose to stop leakage

Undo the 11mm hard line nut

Undo the cdv from the flexi line

Join the flexi to the hard line. Grips off and bleed using the 7mm nipple

From various discussions here over the years, most non-M owners report that removing it leads to a big improvement in shift feel and engagement, whilst far fewer ///M owners describe a significant difference.
I removed mine when I first got the car (///M) and it was noticeable, but far from the dramatic improvement reported by others. I’ve not replaced it and I’ve not encountered any issues as a result of its absence.

Another vote for removing it. It certainly helps my shifts from first to second. :driving:

Another vote for removing it.

It’s made a decent difference on my manual BMW’s….even my wife noticed the difference on her 125i and 330i and she’s usually oblivious to that sort of stuff!

I still need to ditch it on my Z4.

I couldn't downshift accurately without removing it. Also noticed a juddering when moving off in 1st that went away once removed. Even on a diesel 1 series I whipped it out and noticed it. Well worth doing.
