Clutch stop

Have any of you guys fitted a clutch stop and if so, which one did you fit? I’m thinking of fitting one but not too sure if it’s a worthwhile mod.

There are 2 opinions on these...

1) Those who buy & fit them, and love them
2) Those that think they're a waste of time

I'm in the 2nd camp.

Why do you think you need one, and what do you think it will do for you that your left leg can't?

Don't forget...if it's not adjusted PERFECTLY, it will be too far down and you might as well just use your leg. If it's too far up, you will not be engaging the clutch fully and you may wear it out prematurely (as you won't even feel it if it's only 5-10% disengaged).

I have one one my car. Not sure it makes a huge difference tbh. It just shortens the clutch pedal travel, for me it’s more of a comfort thing and having a bad left knee. I think I paid about a tenner for one so it maybe worth a try as it only takes a couple of mins to swap out.

Indeed it is. Never given one a thought myself.

Something I’ve thought about too Simon for the simple reason I’m a short arse at 5’6” and no more...! I find to have the perfect seat to steering wheel position Id prefer the clutch to stop a little higher so any gains, no matter how small....excise the pun.... would be welcome. I actually forgot about it until this post tbh...very simple to make my own so I’ll do that.

In theory it sounds like a good idea as I think the standard clutch pedal travel is way too long, my jap cars had much nicer shorter pedals. I would be interested to hear feedback too.

It's an ADJUSTABLE clutch stop, opposed to the non-adjustable one BMW put there. Waste of money/time.

Why is it a waste of money and time..? Would cost me about £3 to make and reduce the travel a little. Can’t see any downside whatsoever.

For those interested, I bought something like this 6 to 8 years ago => https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Clutch-Stop-M3-E30-E36-E46-330-325-328-Z3-Z4-E85-E86/253239585714?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item3af6416bb2:g:l3MAAOSwxIRZ-5Ay&enc=AQAEAAACcIQvEcHUrT7nmUC3yY5qbPyaBN1nJEDYW8MyypsJPgXKBMsgxzC%2B4AcufPIrJqKaAEsMeideB05wwHOa5EVVnT%2Fu6UDYIxs4w1M%2FytUtQCaVTe5UTGLlR%2FpM0KluJ9CxoMUbcNMWRpkgnSsf0uVPvSUKCosxSvULJZTyPiS8MVFWFQJGwbPV7B%2BfJT2EITW7O1AKOGODJ4%2BxjwpEElLBW4sKqEN9nNThz4c748B0OnWhc0yzKnkWo0IGtlAM3zqqzFAuU43R66oe84EGJOPvgHCK9nuGIE0F63tdmULBqExOwqJ%2BNNZofLWr9ae3dbLUxdpNjJ0byUu%2F13q6rNkQRu6rWSO7TQu1K31bCBg4R19KmxNJF%2FFTppV%2BHu%2FFU%2BsAIlevTFUl0DXULTljefnPyIv4kpfGQVZIxXF9RJG5cPnDB%2FwrL9iqplerrdo5mtmElxSYcfajtfIUCKirt7fVG6hBwSqPPtcSWIJRXZT1nB4mhEg0R%2FF9KbfPK6CEHo5aUlA6XoxfSlQu%2BrE0A2IOTABVAe%2Fhq%2FVoqOSyec2I9qonq9S9i3Ya62tuDrn3FSAxj3%2FhQ3ItvZnt%2B28%2BjhiJn4Oj35DJFDBjE7Ib7DSe7Q1jLUBtWSmxJ1CK%2BLwXi2YWTgyFelAkZsPGebLhG8ZoleXAujm1cqQ7rDsM4V%2F9OAQXNRhrKBZZy2lM8O7GPJ7GMWH%2FKMqEQ9mFY6nOdSRVXlsDs17xgLOg1MtFUIklkUeNYnXKaZAe%2BwJ8NQxuscxIsV0vRIlFIFs4KOhp7FgsZmey6UdeMb7aXcWQNUX7Z9Ap2LK%2Fh2QJTO2wueZno6c5Ug%3D%3D&checksum=253239585714dbb0694a73824ed1b8f7da2621a2dbe9

Not that expensive to try or you can make one from scraps or stuffs from a hardware store. Here's a long thread talking about it a few years back => https://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=764888&highlight=clutch+stop

I happen to fall in the camp who buy & fit them, and love them :driving:

It is a worthwhile comfort mod, especially for those with short legs as it removes the dead space aft of the clutch engagement.
Make your own from a bolt, washer & nut.

Adjust the height when the clutch is warm, I have mine positioned a bit below the clutch engagement point. It did not improve shifts for me, that was achieved with Vibra Technics engine mounts, removal of CDV & a ZHP.

I fitted one perhaps 8 years ago and removed it the same day. My clutch takes up close to the floor so it prevented the clutch from fully disengaging. If it disengaged after only a short pedal travel, I would certainly refit it.

Maybe try taping a small block of wood of the same thickness as the stop, underneath the clutch pedal and see if it makes the difference you're looking for?

I'm not suggesting this would be a particularly safe mod for any length of time, but could well help you make your decision.
