Clutch problem?

Hi folks, i've got an e85 3.0i manual with 76k on the clocks.
took it out for a spirited drive for the first time in too long tonight, and notice that when some power was applied at mid range (3000rpm-ish), in 4th, 5th and 6th, the revs would rise, then fall back down without road speed increasing much then rise normally with the road speed. Tried this in 2nd but didn't seem to have the same issue. Under normal driving i've experienced no issues at all.
What do we reckon? Worn clutch? I've got no record of the clutch ever being changed so could well be the original still.

Sounds like clutch slip, not huge mileage but it depends how it's been driven (or if it has oil leaking on it)

well that's good i suppose (better than it being a bigger issue) - not slipping in 2nd seems a bit strange to me, is this normal? i'd have thought it slips more in lower gears?

A slipping clutch will always show itself in the higher gears first Ryan, the engine and clutch are subjected to more load in the higher gears when accelerating.

I see, makes sense when you think about it, wheels require more force to turn due to a higher ratio so more force applied on the clutch, something like that? I understand they're self adjusting so i've not got long before it goes completely?

It could last for a while depending on how you drive it, if you drive it sympathetically knowing the issue is now there it might last a while, but best getting it changed as it could damage the flywheel or other components if you let it go completley.

I'll get it changed in the new year, driving to stansted in mid-January so last thing I need is for it to go on the side of the motorway before a flight :headbang: Hopefully it'll hold up a couple more weeks if I drive like my granny

Also, what clutch would be reccomended? Don't want anything super fancy, just something that won't wear out too quickly and will be reliable.
