Clutch pedal switch

Hi everyone, I’ve got a 2006 2.5.
Should it start without the clutch pedal being pressed?
Also cruise won’t engage. Not had the car long and only just noticed.
Thanks for any replies

It should start without the clutch being depressed. I’ve only ever experienced some motorcycles that require the clutch to be depressed when starting (even when in neutral).

Good luck with diagnosing the problem, sorry I can’t offer any help.

Most Porsches need the clutch depressed to start - the other half has got me into the habit with the zed!

I think my 2007 2.5 roadster and 2007 3.0 coupe could/can start without the clutch down, although I’ve rarely done it.

Cruise control will only engage at (I think!) 25mph and you do it by pushing the stalk away from you (not pressing the button!)

Hope this helps!

Many American market cars need the clutch pedal down to start. Many autos need a foot on the brake to start. The Z4 does neither of those things :-)

I think all new cars do now. My old E87 from 2011 required foot on the clutch.

A mate had simialr issue on his ///M though where CC would not engage. I disconnected the clutch pedal and it made no difference to the car at all so assumed it was at fault. This was replaced but no joy.

There is also a two circuit brake pedal switch which could also be the issue, so even though the brake lights work, the other circuit could have failed.

I will be interested to hear what the final issue is.

A 2006 Z4 should start without needing the clutch pedal depressed.

But BMW were starting to bring that feature in at that time. My 3005 E90 needs the pedal depressed and the 2007 1 Series I had needed that as well.

And I hope you can get your cruise control working.

Update, fitted replacement switch today and cruise has started working
Good to hear. I fitted cruise control to my E85 at the weekend and it’s so lovely to have on the car.
