Interestingly, the TIS describes the foam as sound insulation. Which I guess it is, since the reason for adding the Dynamat is sound deadening (although it does provide insulation as well). Personally I wouldn't be keen on leaving off the foam insulation and will pick up some butylene tape to use to re-affix it as per the TIS instructions.
