Clonk behind front passenger wheel... -_-

On the way home tonight the car started making a metal creaking noise when turning left.

Turning right no noise at all.

I thought it sounded like a rear spring, but wasn't as in 2-3 minutes I was already home.

I parked in the garage and with the handbrake off (to stop handbrake squeaking noise) I bounced on each corner in turn.

The only one to make any noise was front nearside.

It sounds like something hits the inside of the wing when you press down on the corner. A definite clonk and you can feel the knock with your hand on the wing. It looks too far back from the struts to be anything to do with the spring.

Opened the bonnet and the 'clonk' is even louder.

Ideas?
 
The only think I can think of that is moved when loading the suspension is the Anti Rollbar (ARB), drop links connected to the arb, springs or shocks. Wishbones are only loaded from the wheels themselves so unlikely to be them.
Sounds to me like a shock to me, since none of the above are able to transmit vibrations to the wing except the shocks due to their position, unless it's significant enough to travel up the shock to the strut tower to the wing. (too much info, I know :roll: )

Does it happen when you unload the same side? you can unload it by lifting the same corner from the wheel arch a little.
 
Just thought actually, when you turn left, you're actually unloading the nearside, so you've already proved the point...
 
For sure go check the shocks, etc. but also check the strut braces running from the firewall to the suspension towers. They are known to split the welds and make a lot of noise.
