Clock gone blank...does the battery need replacing?

Hi,

A couple of days ago, the digits on the clock disappeared and were replaced with --:-- and the trip distance was reset to 0000
The display is still like this today. The display for everything else works fine; temperature, trip distance, average mpg...
I have done a search on here, and people say it is a sign the battery is probably on the way out.
As we are gearing up for some freezing weather from next month, is it best for me to replace the battery?
Can I replace the battery myself?

I did a search on the internet for batteries, and on the EuroCarParts website I get prices from £66 upwards for Lion, Exide and Bosch.
Is there anything specific I should be looking for in battery specs?

Thanks

This could be your battery on the way out. This is how my symptoms started. My stability control would then disable itself while I was driving and then eventually the car failed to start on Xmas eve three years ago...lol

Anyway I bought a bosch s5 online for around £70 I think it was and fitted it myself. It's awkward with the z4 boot being low but wasn't too bad.

My battery has been rock solid ever since even though it's only a weekend car.

I have an M so not sure which battery would be suitable for your needs.

Cheers

I know I am 2.5 years late in posting how I fixed this, but hopefully it will help someone :)

It was the battery that was dying.
I had a new battery installed, and it's been fine since.
