Same problem here, I am sure I read in another post a few weeks back that the problem was common on E46 and was some sort of grease that had dried up and gone to powder... i'll try and find the post to see if it compares to the work daves had done.

This sounds like something similar that is happening with my car, what exactly was the fix to your problem then, just some grease?

With mine, in 1st or 2nd gear (usually 1st and most commonly in 1st) when you accelerate and depress the clutch to change gear there is a massive clunk and the car seems to lurch forward opposing the pushing effect of you driving forward. If you are really really smooth and granny like with the clutch, I can avoid it but it takes about 5 seconds per gear change because you are depressing the clutch so slowly to avoid it. Or if you drive with full throttle in 1st gear and change you dont get the clunk but any regular sort of driving seems to give it.

Does this sound like the same problem you had? many thanks.
