Clear Xenon retrofit

Well got round to this mod at last. It’s a pre-facelift clear xenon retrofit. Took me around a year waiting for all the relevant parts to turn up on the net. The bulbs, control units and the ignition elements were no problem to source but the headlights seemed to take a lifetime.

Headlights were a straight swap for the halogen ones then I got an Indy to fit the self levelling sensors (again eBay job straight off a 3 series) and recode a new xenon LCM unit.

I would like to say thanks to sammyz aka John who helped me refit the bumper as I had this thing on and off hundreds of times trying to get the headlight alignment right. It’s not a hard job but doing it alone can be a pain in the backside. :headbang:

Couldn’t believe my luck when I sold my old halogens for £170 which was a nice bonus, anyway I have taken some crappy photos for now but I can see why people rate the clear look, as it’s totally refreshed the front end.
:driving:

The main purpose was the Xenons and boy they are so much brighter than the halogens that often I would double check they were even on. I now would never buy a car with Halogens or maybe I should get more regular eyes tests :?

They do look so much better. I'd like xenons. What bits do you need? Do the actual headlamps have to be xenon ones or can you fit xenon bulbs in the halogen units?

Well done!

So no additional wiring is needed for a halogen to xenon in the headlight loom? Where to the self levelling sensors connect?

Great work. I know the satisfaction getting clears on the front give. Btw - edit the last line of your post as I think you mean you'd neve buy halogen again..

What about washers to be legal and pass MOT's?

You need the two pre-facelift headlights if you want to avoid a re-wiring job as pre halogen to pre xenon is a simple plug and play job. Paired with that you will need the necessary xenon components as in this link

Then you will need two self leveling suspension components that fit to the under-body in order to ensure the light adjusts to the road and also are a legal requirement. I would defiantly ensure you have the connectors in place before you embark on this mod as a previous forum member collected all the bits and then had the car on a ramp only to realize no loom was in place. I used this thread for my fact finding

Cheers Cj just edited that error  Yeah your spot on about the washers as this is the only job I have'nt done, spoke to both my local MOT guy and the BMW Indy I use and both have said no worries about the washers, both only had interest to ensure they leveled in the correct oem way. Forgot to add to my post that I needed to buy a brand new Lcm as the 2nd hand xenon Lcm I purchased from Ebay could'nt be recoded by two Indy's :? I have read people have had no issues with pre used Lcm's but I did, but still Im very pleased both on a functional and ascetic level :D

Interesting that they are not bothered by absence of washers, but seek levellers. I can only assume they are more the hid kits fitted in halogen units.
